Today is National Chocolate Chip Day (we have to indulge sometimes). The Toll House cookie was invented at the Toll House Inn in which state?
a) New York
b) Massachusetts
c) Connecticut
d) Maryland
Answer: b) The Toll House Inn was located in Whitman, Massachusetts, and the eponymous cookie was created by owner Ruth Wakefield in 1936. Nestlé started marketing chocolate chips in 1940 and ever since has included the Toll House cookie recipe on its packages. Wakefield died in 1977, the inn burned down in 1984, and the site is now occupied by a (sigh) Wendy’s.
