Speed-Walking the Walk
When life gives you a rain break, you make a fast break for the farmers market

Dang. We got hosed here in Chicago. After some lighter rain early this morning, a line of downpours moved in at about 11:30. The rain got heavier… and then a Tornado Warning alert sounded off on my phone. Whoa, we get a lot of weather here in the city but a tornado warning is a bit rattling.
Fortunately that threat passed uneventfully, but we are getting a lot of rain in a short period of time, with ponding on our section of Lake Shore Drive that usually has good drainage. If you were out, I hope you got in before the rains. If you’re still out, please be careful out there. Looks like we’re in for nasty weather.
A Saturday washout may not be the worst case scenario for our farmers market farmers, but it’s close. Fortunately I took my own advice from yesterday’s issue, and watched the weather radar for breaks in the monsoon to make a market run.
Around 8:15 this morning, I noticed a gap was developing that gave me a chance to dash to Lincoln Park Farmers Market, a sweet neighborhood spot… hit Dom’s Kitchen and Market for some things I needed for a special anniversary dinner I’m making tonight (we moved to Chicago 10 years ago this coming Tuesday)… and get home before the rains resumed.
Via buses and walking, this took about two hours and I beat the rain re-start by about an hour.
You can’t say I don’t practice what I preach. Here is some photographic evidence.
And tune in tomorrow, because the boozy fruit salad makes its debut in Local Food Forum. You do not want to miss it.
