Hatchery Hosts Farmers Market Webinar
Plus, there ain't no Grand Opening like a local food Grand Opening.
WhatsGood Farm Store Officially Opens With Snip
WhatsGood, which partners with local food providers to deliver directly to consumers, officially opened its first brick-and-mortar store this morning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The Farm Shop, located at 1721 N. Halsted St. in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, had been open in soft launch mode since November 17.
Since we already wrote about the Farm Shop and the significance of a year-round, indoor location for local farm-fresh food twice last week (Wednesday and Friday), we’ll spare the words this time. But there are more Grand Opening photos below the following important announcement.

Hatchery’s 12/16 Webinar On Farmers Market Prep
Now here’s a webinar I can endorse without reservation. The Hatchery food business incubator presents Preparing for 2022 Farmer’s Markets on Thursday, December 16, 4-5:30 p.m. The program features two of my favorite people and organizations in the local food community: Taylor Choy, Green City Market’s operations manager, and Yescenia Mota, the longtime coordinator for Chicago City Markets in the city’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events.

Filing paperwork, proper licensing, certifications and meeting deadlines can be daunting tasks when it comes to selling at farmers markets. Luckily, Green City Market and City of Chicago Farmers Markets have come together to guide us with best practices and tips to have a successful Farmers Market season.
Taylor Choy is the Operations Manager at Green City Market. Taylor is a first generation Asian-American who is passionate about supporting local food systems that prioritize equitable access to sustainable foods. Additionally, Taylor has several years of experience in food sustainability, waste reduction and community development through her work with Garden Collage, Center for Urban Research and Learning, School of Environmental Sustainability (formally IES), and the Chicago Foundation for Women. She works directly with farmers and vendors at Green City’s markets and e-commerce programs.
Yescenia Mota is the City Markets Coordinator for the City of Chicago-Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. Yescenia oversees and manages 15 City Markets, serving communities that reflect the City’s diversity. She provides strategies for collaboration and incubation for other independent neighborhood markets and oversees programming and participation of approximately 100 – 250 permanent and alternate vendors, musicians and performers who enhance the markets’ atmosphere and their community presence.
