Woman Chefs Holding Panel-Fundraiser
Program aids women/children refugees in the Sudan; also, a WhatsGood sneak peek
Sneak Peek at the Whatsgood Farm Shop
As we reported on Wednesday, Whatsgood — primarily a delivery service for farm-fresh local food — is holding a Grand Opening for its first brick-and-mortar Farm Shop on Tuesday (December 7) at 1721 N. Halsted St. in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood.
The store is in soft-opening mode though, so I popped down to check it out. The tiny storefront shares the building with a fulfillment center, located behind sliding wooden barn doors, for its also new 1-hour delivery option. And, according to staff, the store is not yet fully stocked.
But there are delicious items already available, and the potential is strong for this Farm Shop — the first of many around Chicago planned by Whatsgood — to blossom into the kind of year-round indoor platform for locally produced food that to date has been a gap in our community’s farmers market infrastructure.
The store will be open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, Saturday and Monday if you also want to check it out before the grand opening.

I am pleased to help promote the Women in Leadership online event, featuring four Chicago woman chefs-restaurateurs, that takes place Thursday (December 9) at 7 p.m.
Tickets for what is sure to be an engaging and informative event are just $25 and — here’s the amazing part — all proceeds will be donated to HPN4Tigray (Health Professional Network for Tigray) to help women and children who are in refugee camps in the Sudan.
The event is organized by Chef Sarah Stegner of Prairie Grass Cafe in suburban Northbrook, who is a co-founder of the EventFull food event platform. The other panelists are:
∙ Tigist Reda of Demera (a member of HPN4Tigray)
∙ Lori Seay of Soul Veg City
∙ Mary Aregoni of Saigon Sisters
The program will be moderated by Melissa Clark of Chicago-based Primera Engineers and board of directors member of Green City Market.
There also are samplers of food from the four participating restaurants that may be purchased for pickup on December 10. You may also purchase a one-on-one consulting session with the chef of your choice.
