Christmas Lights on Skyscraper Glass
The following is an except from the poem Chicago and December by W.S. DiPiero, published in 2006. I was struck by the imagery.
Mealy mist. Furred air.
I walk north across
the river, Christmas lights
crushed on skyscraper glass,
bling stringing Michigan Ave.,
sunlight’s last-gasp sighing
through the artless fog.
I was fortunate to take the photo above from the Willis Tower skydeck in December 2015. I love the way it captures the city’s beauty this time of year.
To readers who celebrate Christmas, and those who do not, I wish you all the joy and happiness and love you deserve. To those who have suffered loss that casts a shadow over these holidays, I wish you comfort.
Safe travels to those who have places to go. And by all means, eat good food, with bonus points if it’s locally produced.
Local Food Forum will be off the grid for the three-day weekend, and then rarin’ to go at our usual breakneck pace next week.
