One More Indoor Week at Green City
The stand of Jacobson Family Farms (Antioch, Illinois) greeted shoppers at Green City Market’s next-to-last indoor session. After wrapping up another successful winter market next Saturday (March 23), Green City will take a week off to prepare for its April 6 opener that kicks off the region’s outdoor market season.
Baby radishes and carrots flanked a basket of garlic, creating a real-life still life at the Jacobson Family Farms stand.
My market haul (from left): two spicy eggplant tofu salads from Phoenix Bean (Chicago); sliced multigrain bread from pHlour (Chicago); tiny early scallions from Jacobson Family Farms; eggs from Finn’s Ranch (Buchanan, Michigan); carrots from Tomato Mountain (Brooklyn, Wisconsin); cremini mushrooms from River Valley Ranch (Burlington, Wisconsin); and Yukon Gold potatoes from Nichols Farm and Orchard (Marengo, Illinois).
To honor Barb’s Irish heritage, Sunday’s dinner will pair the potatoes and scallions in the traditional dish of champ alongside wild-caught Sockeye salmon.
