Hopefully you're planning to hit one (or more) of the many farmers markets already open in the Chicago region this weekend. This Local Food Forum slice of what's in season right now, from my quick stop on Thursday (May 29) at the Daley Plaza Farmers Market in downtown Chicago's Loop.
Meet Contributor Ed Kugler at His Ravinia Farmers Market
Historic Market in Suburban Highland Park Opens Wednesday
Regular readers of Local Food Forum have been seeing Ed Kugler's name a lot. A veteran of the Chicago region local food scene, Ed this year has been traveling to markets all over the area and has shared his findings here in his Farmers Market Reporter series.
He does have an important day job, though, as manager of Ravinia Farmers Market in the Chicago North Shore suburb of Highland Park. The market has its season opener this coming Wednesday (June 4) from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., and will be open for your local food fun into October.
This article has the market's details, including a preview of its very special event that will take place August 20 at the nearby Ravinia summer concert venue. Visit Ravinia Farmers Market, and tell Ed that Local Food Forum sent you.

Intrepid Ed Kugler Hit Arlington Heights and Downers Grove Saturday Markets
When Ed Kugler isn't busy with his longtime role as manager of suburban Chicago's Ravinia Farmers Market, he rambles across the metro area visiting other markets. Local Food Forum is grateful for his Farmers Market Reporter contributions, which helps expands our reach across the region's vibrant farmers market landscape.
This article features Ed's photo travelogues from two Saturday markets last week. One is in Arlington Heights, a city that has become very familiar to fans of the Chicago Bears. The other is Downers Grove, and no, it isn't named for people with negative personalities (read the article to see who it is named after).
Every market is a little different from the others. I hope this series give readers a better feel for the region's farmers market variety.
