Two Fun Illinois Stewardship Alliance Events Coming Up
Plus more about Ravinia market's 45th anniversary
Don’t Miss These Stewardship Alliance Events
Illinois Stewardship Alliance is our state’s leading advocate for better for people and the planet food and farming policy. They also know how to have fun and invite all to join them for two fun farm events, one in September and one in October.
The first is the 2023 Harvest Celebration at Indian Creek Farmstead in Petersburg, located in west-central Illinois about 30 miles north of Springfield. The Alliance describes it as “a finger-licking good hog roast & family fun.” Here’s more:
This year, our celebration will feature a finger-licking good hog roast with scrumptious side dishes (with vegetarian options), live music, and activities for all ages to enjoy — including tractor rides, a petting zoo and a drawing for your chance to win fabulous prizes!
Thanks to Alliance Board President and farmer Chad Wallace of Oak Tree Organics, and Chefs Emily and Corey of Ma & Pops Diner and Joe Standley of Proud Richard’s Restaurant, we are thrilled to offer a pasture-raised, locally-sourced hog roast and yummy sides that no on-farm BBQ would be complete without.

And on Saturday, October 7, Illinois Stewardship Alliance is holding its Farm to Fork Feast. Heads up, Chicago metro residents, the event will take place nearby at McDonald Farm in suburban Naperville.
Here’s what the Alliance says about this event:
You’re invited to our very first Farm-to-Fork Feast at McDonald Farm in Naperville.
The Feast will bring together farmers, eaters, and food system leaders from northern Illinois for an evening of fellowship and the finest local food sourced from nearby farms.
Farm to Fork Feast
Saturday, October 7th
3pm – 6pm central time
McDonald Farm, Naperville
It may be sizzling outside, but we’re already thinking about rich autumn flavors, crisp fresh ingredients, and the warmth of kinship amongst friends. Proceeds raised support our work to bring farmers and eaters together to build a more just, local and regenerative food and farm system.
Sponsors help bring farmers and eaters together at the Farm to Fork Feast, and everyday, with their support for the Alliance. If you are interested in sponsoring the Farm to Fork Feast or know someone who might, click here to learn more.
Hope to see you there!

Local Food Forum on Sunday mentioned that Ravinia Farmers Market in Highland Park is celebrating its 45th anniversary on Wednesday (August 9), during its regular market hours from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and during a special Taste of Ravinia event that will run from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The event got a boost today with a spot on WGN-TV’s midday news program. The segment featured Ed Kugler, market manager and organic farmer, discussing the event, and a song played by popular market regular Pierce Crask, who will perform during Wednesday afternoon’s event.
