Beautiful Morning
The short holiday work week got off to a gorgeous start. Scroll down for the pretty sunset pix from this weekend.
Virtual Paid Subscription Operators Standing By
Thanks to my three new paid subscribers, I have $30 to send to World Central Kitchen, on top of the $201 contributed to my Facebook birthday fundraiser.
I’d love to be able to send more, so a reminder: I will contribute 10 percent ($5) for every $50 paid subscription (new or upgrade from free), and 20 percent ($20) for every new $100 Founder subscription.
In any case, thanks for your interest in Local Food Forum.

No, That’s Not How You Make Ice Wine
This snow-flecked bin of grapes at the Ellis Family Farms stand pretty much summed up the last outdoor session at Green City Market on Saturday. It was very cold…
… and the slimmed-down crowd and vendor lineup reflected the big chill.
My first stop of the day was directly across Stockton Drive, where my friend Daryn Pobanz of Jake’s Country Meats pulled up his truck to deliver pre-orders of Thanksgiving goodies. That 13-pound turkey Daryn is holding, now defrosting for two days in my refrigerator, will make its next appearance in my Thanksgiving dinner photos.
The last stop on my farmers market sprint was to say goodbye to The Lincoln Park Farmers Market on its last day until spring. That’s market manager-extraordinaire Elsa Jacobson, appropriately bundled up for a long, cold day outside.
A little farmers market break coming up, but I’m planning to be at Green City Market’s first winter market in the Avondale neighborhood on December 3.
Evening Glory
Once I got home Saturday, I was in for the day. Not only was it bitter cold, but also dismal for most of daytime, steely gray with a series of pop-up snow showers. But just before sunset, the skies cleared enough to produce these magnificent scenes.
Then Sunday’s sunset was no small potatoes, either.
Safe travels if you’re starting your Thanksgiving holiday early.
