Three Chicago-Area Food Events Create One Virtuous Circle
Generosity Abounds in My Hometown's Local Food Community
I have written often about the generosity of the Chicago region's culinary community. And sometimes this generosity creates something of a virtuous circle.
This Local Food article tells the story of how:
* D'Andre Carter of Soul & Smoke BBQ won a chef competition (sponsored by Good Morning America and Chicago’s Sonny's BBQ), then donated his $10,000 winnings to Chicago Chefs Cook, the non-profit that raises money for philanthropic and humanitarian causes.
* Chicago Chefs Cook then quickly pivoted with a campaign to match donations up to that $10,000 to support relief for restaurants devastated in the disastrous Texas flash flooding.
* Closer to home, Chef Sarah Stegner — a co-founder of Chicago Chefs Cook — is a vocal advocate for The Evolved Network NFP, a non-profit founded by Chef Sebastian White to provide learning and life skills to underprivileged youths through farm to table experiences. And Sarah and Sebastian are teaming up next Tuesday on a fundraiser dinner at Sarah’s Prairie Grass Cafe focused on youth mental health.
It is truly an honor to be engaged with this amazing community of difference makers. Please read this story… I hope you find inspiration in it.
