The Writing on the Wall Says Love
The lovely message out my window, and the holiday weekend farmers market sked
All You Need to Start Your Holiday Weekend
My “office” is tucked into a corner of our living room. About a block and a half away, near Broadway and Roscoe, there is an unprepossessing four-story apartment building, across a parking lot from a Starbucks, that never drew a lot of attention… until yesterday.
I noticed some painting going on, and as the day went on it started to develop into a colorful message: the word “LOVE” in rainbow colors (we live in Lakeview on the fringes of Northalsted, aka Boystown, the historic heart of Chicago’s gay community).
We’re living in a time when haters are chronically forcing their way into our consciousness. To quote a 1960s song, what the world needs now is love, sweet love. I want to thank whoever is responsible for the mural because every time I turn my head to the right, I literally see love.
Have a glorious 4th of July weekend. If you’re going somewhere, travel safe. Wherever you are, party safe. And make sure your holiday table is full of delicious locally produced food; the weekend farmers market schedule is below the following request from one of our great local nonprofits.
Aug. 7 Popup Market in Aurora Needs Vendors
The Just Food Initiative of the Fox Valley is a nonprofit that addresses food inequity in Chicago’s western suburbs It teaches individuals young and old how to grow their own food and how to preserve that food, and it provides information on eating for health and choosing wisely from the supermarket.
The Just Food Initiative is hold is a one-time Fresh Start Community Market in Aurora on August 7. The market will take place at St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church on Aurora’s southeast side, where residents (mostly BIPOC) have limited access to fresh food.
But they need you if you are a farmer market vendor (or want to be). They need more vendors to sign up for this valuable project.
