The Outdoor Season Winds Down
Check out this weekend's schedule and don't miss the market finales

Wednesdays Just Got a Little Quieter
I stopped by Green City Market the other day to mark its last Wednesday market this year. After a season of big crowds, the Wednesday finale was more laid back, with space to wander and only a handful of vendors.
It will surely be a livelier scene on Saturday (this weekend’s market schedule is below). Green City is continuing its outdoor season through November 19 (the Saturday before Thanksgiving), then — after taking off the holiday weekend — starting its new winter indoor market in Avondale on Saturday, December 3.
Unfortunately, the crummy weather and a crosstown appointment on Tuesday prevented me from catching the last of the season at SOAR Farmers Market in Chicago’s Streeterville neighborhood. I had many happy shopping stops at this downtown market this season and look forward to hopping the 146 bus to visit next year.
My Wednesday Green City Market haul was on the small side. That’s an eggplant from Smits Farm (Chicago Heights, Illinois); cranberries and a camera-shy jar of honey from Ellis Family Farms (Benton Harbor, Michigan); garlic focaccia from Dorothy’s Bistro, formerly known as Flat & Point (Chicago); a pretzel from Bennison’s Bakery (Evanston); onions from Jacobson Farms (Antioch, Illinois); and tofu salads from Phoenix Bean Tofu (Chicago).

REMINDER: This is the last weekend for most of the following markets. Don’t miss out!
Note: The Woodstock Farmers Market this Saturday begins its indoor season.
