Sebastian White's Ever-Evolving Fundraising
Sebastian White’s Fundraiser Triple Play
My friend Sebastian White is a busy, busy man. Fresh off being a participant in the Chicago Chefs Cook dinner that raised funds for victims of the Maui wildfires — that’s him second right in the photo — Sebastian continues to cook up a storm to support his The Evolved Network non-profit and others’ causes as well.
First up, this Saturday (September 9) from 2 to 8 p.m., Sebastian is in the long lineup of chefs participating in the Chicago Urban Ag Crawl and Backyard BBQ. The event will benefit South Side non-profits Growing Home, Grow Greater Englewood and Urban Growers Collective, and it includes:
Tour and exciting workshops at Urban Growers Collective's Green Era Digester
Backyard BBQ featuring local chefs at Growing Home's Urban Farm
Trolley Tour of Local Urban Growers Sites and Gardens in Auburn Gresham, Englewood and Surrounding Neighborhoods
Music, Drinks & Treats at Grow Greater Englewood's Village Plaza

Then, as previously reported in Local Food Forum, The Evolved Network series of tasting events is resuming on Thursday, September 21 (6:30-8:30 p.m.) with an event in which Sebastian teams up with personal chef Candice Howarth of Bridges & Space and The Self-Employed Collective.
Here’s how Sebastian describes the event. There’s a link to buy tickets below.
“About 4 weeks ago, Candice and I were connected by Tracy Rhodes with The Paramount Group. We later met at eden [restaurant] to learn about each other’s work, and we instantly connected around the all-encompassing power and beauty of food.
‘We both deeply believe in the healing and transformative power of food and the connection and community it creates. It is from this space that we knew a collaboration was necessary. Candice eagerly sought to support The Evolved Network and graciously offered her event space for an opportunity to connect more people with our mission. I could not fully accept without also giving her the spotlight she deserves and as such I am so excited to partner with her on this opportunity to show the connecting power of food.
“Come out! Eat some incredible food prepared by two Chicago chefs, have a couple drinks, and support our cause, while meeting other local businesses and community members.”
Then on Monday, October 16, eden restaurant in Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood will host Eat and Evolve 2023, the biggest annual fundraising event for The Evolved Network.
Local Food Forum has written often about The Evolved Network, but if you’re new to the newsletter, The Evolved Network is a Chicago non-profit that works with young people from under-resourced communities to provide education and support through farm-to-table experiences. Sebastian White currently provides cooking lessons for students in several Chicago schools. His ultimate goal is to build out a restaurant and urban farm that will provide young participants with job, business and growing skills while providing therapeutic assistance for those who need it.
And if doing good isn’t enough reason to buy tickets for Eat and Evolved, you’d do well to check out the amazing roster of participating restaurants seen at the bottom of the graphic above.
Coming Soon to a Window Near Me
We’re still a few weeks away from the sunsets moving to our side of the building and becoming regular photo ops from our living room. So last night (Sunday) I went up to the roof deck with my new camera. Turned out that the plexiglass surrounding the deck was a bit dusty (it’s been a while since we’ve had rain), but I think this capture above will do.
There was a pretty albeit brief afterglow too.
