Reminder: Two Big Events This Week
Illinois Soil Health Week and the Farmers for Climate Change Rally in DC
Participate Virtually or Live in Soil Health Week
A reminder that Illinois Soil Health Week, organized by Illinois Stewardship Alliance, begins tomorrow (Monday, March 6), with more than 20 informative virtual and live events from March 6 through 12.
Along with the great sessions in the graphic above, click below to view the full calendar of events — which includes a Soil Health Lobby Day and Rally in Springfield on Wednesday, March 8.
Preserving and increasing the health of our nation’s precious soils is at the heart of sustainable and regenerative agriculture practices. Whether you are already heavily engaged in this issue or want to learn more and get more involved, this event has a lot to offer you.
Three-Day Farmers for Climate Action Rally in DC
Farmers are in the front lines of the potentially catastrophic impacts of global climate change. So a reminder that if you live in or happen to be in the Washington, D.C. area, join Farmers for Climate Action: Rally for Resilience. This major event begins tomorrow (Monday, March 6) and runs through March 8.
We mentioned that seven farmers sponsored by Illinois Stewardship Alliance will be attending the rally. We have learned that Chicago Food Policy Action Council will also be there representing our region’s better-for-people, better-for-the-planet food community. It has also been announced that music star Jon Mellencamp, one of the founders of the Farm Aid non-profit organization, will be in attendance.
Farm Aid announced the event at its 2022 festival in Raleigh, North Carolina on behalf of National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition, the organizer of the rally. Farm Aid says we “must support farmers in building systems that are resilient to climate change impacts, improve and sustain farmers’ economic bottom line, and support biodiversity. This includes incorporating greenhouse gas emissions reductions and carbon sequestration into all the landscapes of U.S. agriculture.”
Click the button below to learn more, including the schedule of events that includes the rally in Freedom Plaza and a march to the Capitol on March 7 and a lobbying day on March 8.
I have an inquiry out on whether the rally will be live-streamed for those of us who can’t be in D.C. and will let you know if it is.
