Ramping Up Our What's Good Video
All about why we need local food more than ever, plus a stinky onion chat
Why Local Food Is More Important Than Ever
I’m happy to present Episode 2 of What’s Good About Local Food, in which Matt Tortora of WhatsGood and I take a deep dive into what’s in season, why we care so much about expanding our local food system, and why you should too.
This episode could be titled The One Where Matt and Bob Talk About Why Local Food is More Important Than Ever. The chaotic world events of the past two years have shown that the conventional food system, long seen as unshakable, is actual quite fragile.
As the pandemic produced grocery shutdowns, supply chain gridlock, product and labor shortages, and now inflation, many people turned to local farmers for a reliable supply of food. Since these problems are certainly not going to go away overnight, it would be a good time for us all to amp up our local food purchases and to tell your family and friends (you can share this video!) about why local is the way to go.
On the lighter side, we have our weekly what’s-in-season chat, with exciting news that ramps — the “stinky onions” that gave Chicago its name — are hitting local markets. There’s even a hint at where to find them tomorrow, but you have to watch the video to find out.
We are still refining the concept, so your feedback is welcome. And I still haven’t figured out why Zoom isn’t alternating the speaker view. so if you have any ideas on that, let me know.
