The Art of Pumpkin Display
Our friends from Nichols Farm and Orchard (Marengo, Illinois) got all fancy with their pumpkin and winter squash display at Green City Market Saturday. There are some more pix from my visit below, but first, some other things.
Set Your Eye on This Pie-Making Class
ICYMI, yesterday’s Local Food Forum announced that I will be participating in “Pie Taste and Talk,” an online event presented by EventFull that takes place Tuesday of next week (November 16) at 6 p.m. central.
I will be moderating a conversation which features French-trained Chef Arshiya Farheen of Chicago’s Verzênay Pâtisserie, who will conduct a pie-making demo timed for the holiday season, and René Ellis Gelder of Ellis Family Farms in Benton Harbor, Michigan, from whom Arshiya hand-picks produce for her pastry creations.
The ticket price includes three sample slices of delicious Verzênay pies.
It’s almost a Green City Market family gathering. Verzênay and Ellis are both longtime vendors at the market, and EventFull — launched recently to present food prep education programming such as the pie class — is the brainchild of Chef Sarah Stegner of Northbrook’s Prairie Grass Cafe, who was a founding member of Green City, and Darren Gest of Deloitte Consulting, a Green City Board member.
