In 2… 1….
Almost time to put 2021 in the history books. I wasn’t planning a major career change when the year started, but circumstances quickly commended that I do so. Local Food Forum, my passion project that I launched on April 1, was the result.
I love working with and writing about people across the local food community. It is with great admiration that I offered to share (free of charge) the year-end fundraising appeals of nonprofit organizations that are striving to build a better, healthier, more sustainable food system, and I am pleased at how many took me up on the offer.
I was familiar with many of our food nonprofit leaders through my past work with FamilyFarmed, but there were only occasional interactions. I did not know how well Local Food Forum, which I launched out of nowhere, would be received. The welcome and support these awesome people have provided has been one of the most rewarding aspects of 2021 for me, and I now coordinate closely with many of them.
This will be the last Local Food Forum of this year. No drama, I’m just planning to take New Year’s Eve off and will be back at it this weekend. To round things out, here is one more year-end appeal, plus links to the other organizations who have been previously featured.
Have fun if you’re celebrating tomorrow, and please be careful and safe in every way. We need you.
Bob
Note: The Streeterville Organization of Active Residents (SOAR) is a nonprofit community association that presents the SOAR Farmers Market, which I frequent during the outdoor market season. The market, held on Tuesdays in season, brings a small-town feel to the plaza in front of Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art. The content below was provided by SOAR.

The Streeterville Organization of Active Residents Annual Appeal is one of the most important fundraisers all year, not only because the financial contribution supports community programs to help keep Streeterville safe, to help keep Streeterville clean, and to help keep Streeterville thriving, but also to help keep the SOAR Farmers Market at MCA Plaza going rain or shine every June through October. While the location of the Market is convenient for residents and people who work in and around downtown, the farmers and vendors travel from all over the Chicagoland area to offer their products.
Please consider donating online here https://app.donorview.com/nwb9j or by mailing your contribution to SOAR at 244 East Pearson, Suite 102, Chicago, IL 60611.
Thank you and Happy New Year!
