No BBQ But Still Lots of Food
A mid-week visit to Green City, and this weekend's market schedule
Just Another Day of Buying Local Food
I had to do a little household inventory reduction, but I didn’t want you to think I’d taken a break from buying lots of local food.
This was my haul from my visit to the Wednesday Green City Market in Lincoln Park. From the left, lettuce, haricot verts and white onions from Nichols Farm and Orchard (Marengo, Illinois), bratwurst from Finn’s Ranch (Buchanan, Michigan), a spicy tofu salad with eggplant from Phoenix Bean (Chicago), peaches and white grapes from Ellis Family Farms (Benton Harbor, Michigan), heirloom tomatoes, zucchini and red cherry tomatoes from Smits Farms (Chicago Heights, Illinois), and mixed cherry tomatoes and potatoes from Jacobson Family Farms (Antioch, Illinois).
The early morning scene at the market was pretty laid back.
Quite a contrast with the throngs of happy people at Green City’s annual Chef BBQ fundraiser the previous Thursday.
Meanwhile, time marches on, and pumpkins are starting to pile up at the Smits Farm stand.
