I’m Settling for a White New Year’s
There was no white Christmas this year — they are actually pretty rare in Chicago — but on Sunday morning of New Year’s Eve, a snow shower that blew through was intense enough to leave a coating on grassy areas, rooftops and parked cars. It’s not amounting to much, but we may get some more showers, and it finally looked a bit like winter after what’s been an unseasonably warm December.
Get Ready for a New Indoor Market in Chicago
It’s nice to be able to share some exciting news — especially for local food fans in and near Chicago’s South Loop neighborhod — on the last day of 2023. The South Loop Farmers Market, which operates two locations during the outdoor market season, is opening an indoor winter market this coming Saturday (January 6).
The market will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays through March 30 (the market managers hint there will also be some “exciting mid-week surprises”). The market is located in the Roosevelt Collection Shops at 150 W. Roosevelt Rd., between State and Clark streets; there is parking, CTA bus service, and the Roosevelt Red Line stop just a couple of blocks away.
Check below to see the vendors (note that not every vendor will be there every week). With no insult to any others, I’m especially anxious to re-connect with my friends at Zeitlin’s Delicatessen (will you bring those bialys, Sam?).
Bob’s World, and Welcome to It
Let there be more light. The near-constant cloudiness made it hard to get sunrise and sunset photos in the first week of winter. But the morning of December 27 gifted us with this beauty.
We’re at 990… so close!
