Tomorrow: Next Door Dinner at Star Farm
Are you free tomorrow night? Are you hungry for delicious, locally produced food? Do you love urban farms? Then head to Star Farm Chicago on the South Side for the latest in the series of Next Door Dinners, sourced from Chicago urban farmers and makers, which create a sense of community around the food we eat. All profits are donated to food-based nonprofits in the city… in this case, the host organization Star Farm.
Check out the menu in the graphic above. All Next Door Dinners are plant-based. They are BYOB, so maybe bring some whiskey or rum to spike that hot cider?
Star Farm Chicago is located at 944 W. 50th Pl. in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. Doors are at 6 p.m., with dinner served at 6:30. Click below for tickets.
Growing Home Harvestfest is October 14
CI greatly admire the efforts by Growing Home, based in Chicago’s West Englewood neighborhood, to growing tons of organic produce this year, providing increased access to healthy, delicious food for underserved communities while providing job training and skills for ex-offenders and others whose personal circumstances make it hard for them to obtain employment.
So I am happy to share the word about Growing Home’s 4th annual Harvestfest, a fun event that will take place on this coming Saturday (October 14) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at their location at 59th and Honore.
They’ll have free food boxes, kids’ crafts and activities, local vendors, free credit scores and financial advice with Fifth Third Bank, free health advice and gift cards with Howard Brown Health, tours and more!
And it’s all free. Click below to register and reserve your spot.
The Evolved Network’s Silent Auction is Live!
We’ve posted about The Evolved Network’s Eat & Evolve fundraising event and its amazing lineup of chefs, taking place next Monday (October 16) at eden restaurant in Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood. Whether you are planning to attend… or can’t make it but want to help out… there is a silent online auction that is now live.
Just as with the dinner, the silent auction benefits from the extraordinary generosity of the Chicago culinary community. Here are just some of the prizes up for bid:
A dinner created by Chef Paul Kahan of One Off Hospitality (The Publican, Avec, etc.) and Chef Sebastian White, founder of The Evolved Network.
A lunch feast by Chefs Sandra Holl (Floriole), Tigist Reda (Demera Ethiopian) and Sarah Stegner (Prairie Grass Cafe).
A progressive dinner from Boka Restaurant Group featuring their restaurants Cabra, Cira, Duck Duck Goat, and Swift and Sons.
A Dinner of Hope by Chef Devon Quinn at eden restaurant.
And much more. Click the link to visit the auction site and place your bids. Proceed will go to advance The Evolved Network’s work, providing experiential programming through culinary and gardening that equips youth in systemically oppressed communities with transformative healing, skills and support needed to evolve into masters of their unique gifts.
Bob’s World, and Welcome to It
OK, I promise I’m not going to post sunset photos every day. In fact, the weather forecast suggest we have a pretty long cloudy (and rainy) stretch coming soon. So please enjoy these, and I’ll find something else for tomorrow’s issue.
