Market Monday: One Kickoff This Week
After the flurry of farmers market openings during the first half of May, only Oak Park Farmers Market joins our active list this week, on Saturday. (As always, if you know of a market we are overlooking, please let us know.)
Oak Park, located in a near-western suburb of Chicago, has long had one of the area’s most popular farmers markets. We want to take the opportunity to welcome new market manager Kimball Ingram and salute the great efforts by his predecessor Colleen McNichols.
This is just a brief lull. There will be four openings next week, including the Thursday, May 27 launch of Daley Plaza, the flagship of the Chicago City Markets. Then, in the week beginning Monday, May 31 (Memorial Day), we count 28 openings in and around Chicago.
Also, some big news… while Local Food Forum’s market schedule focuses on the immediate Chicago metro area, you can now locate farmers markets throughout Illinois in the upgraded interactive map on the Illinois Farmers Market Association’s home page. To access the map, click on Illinois Markets in the top rail of the ILFMA site and then enter Farmers Markets in the search box.
