Chicago’s Incredible Edible Magazine is Back
After a hiatus of several years, the much-missed Edible Chicago quarterly magazine made its return with its Fall 2023 and Winter 2024 issues.
Now, you have a chance to meet and raise a glass with publisher Megan Marshall at a launch party on the evening of Thursday, March 14 at Hopewell Brewing, 2760 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood. (Since the magazine is already in orbit, this is technically a party to celebrate the impending launch of the Spring 2024 issue.)
There’s a Local Food Forum connection here. In July 2022, the folks at Edible Communities — the company that oversees nearly 90 location-specific food magazines across the United States and Canada — contacted me to ask if I’d post a note that they were seeking an entrepreneur to revive Edible Chicago. The original magazine, for which I wrote some of my first food stories after I moved to Chicago, had been shuttered since 2017.
I obliged and didn’t hear anything until December 2022. I was shopping at the opening of that winter’s indoor Green City Market when Megan, who I’d previously met in 2021 when she was operations manager for Green City, walked up to let me know that she had signed on to bring Edible Chicago back — and had found out about the opportunity from that article I’d published a few months earlier.
Gotta tell you, when I learn that little Local Food Forum has had a tangible impact, it makes me feel all warm inside. And in Edible Chicago’s Winter 2024 edition, I provided an article with recipes for seasonal cocktails at Chicago’s Judson and Moore distillery that will make you feel all warm inside.
Here’s the message about the March 14 event from Megan Marshall, with a link to purchase tickets.

Soil Health Summit Next Week in Minnesota
Local Food Forum has previously shared links to the amazing programming — virtual and live — that Illinois Stewardship Alliance has put together for its 3rd annual Soil Health Week, which begins today (Monday, March 4).
It also has come to my attention that Sustainable Farming Association is presenting its 11th annual Midwest Soil Health Summit — titled Managing for Profit with the Soil Health Principles — in Mankato, Minnesota next week, Wednesday, March 13 and Thursday, March 14.
I know a lot of readers are passionate about this important issue, so if you have the time and schedule flexibility, click the button below for more information.
