Impact Culinary Training, launched in 2019 by legendary Chicago Chef Rick Bayless, provides learning opportunities to young restaurant industry aspirants from Chicago's under-resourced communities.
I attended the graduation ceremony for the school's 9th cohort on August 2 and was impressed. So when I received an invitation to attend a pop-up lunch to be prepared by Cohort 10 students on Friday, October 4, I didn't hesitate to say yes.
It was a rewarding experience. I'm not exaggerating when I say that it was a first-class, restaurant quality meal. Read all about it, with hunger-inducing photos, on the Local Food Forum website.
Tuesday: Dinner to Assist Individuals With Developmental Disabilities
If your evening on Tuesday (October 8) is open, please consider this chef-driven fundraising dinner, organized by the Doors Open Dishes non-profit, to be held at Evanston's LaTour restaurant.
The dinner will raise money to address the dental care needs of individuals in the intellectually and developmentally disabled community. This cause is very personal to Nicole Schnitzler, founder of Doors Open Dishes.
Nicole informs that she began the nonprofit "as a way of raising funds for the critical programming needs of these individuals—and to do it through a culinary lens, as inspired by my autistic brother Daniel and his love of food."
