Beacon of Hope
As Bing Crosby sang in Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn…
I’ve got plenty to be thankful for.
I haven’t got,
A great big yacht,
To sail from shore to shore.
But I’ve got plenty to be thankful for.
Thanks to the farmers, farmers markets, farm to table chefs, food policy and food justice advocates, consumers and everyone else who, in so many ways, are building a better food system from the roots up.
Thanks to Chicago, my adopted forever home, for making me a better me.
Thanks to everyone who reads (and shares) Local Food Forum. It is my honor to share the stories of local food’s everyday heroes with you.
Thanks especially to Barb, who is with me every step of way.
And thanks to Hobbes, my work supervisor, who is spending his first Thanksgiving with us.
Finally, to close the circle, the last pieces of our make-ahead Thanksgiving.
Kicked it old school with Barb’s mom’s recipe.
Sauteed corn (purchased this summer from Three Sisters Garden and frozen) and caramelized onions.
And so we had all this beautiful food ready to go. Why stand on ceremony? My Thanksgiving eve dinner plate.
Wishing you joy, love, and one heckuva good meal today.
