Guess Who’s On The Mike Nowak Show Sunday?
Go on, guess…
OK, the big reveal… I’ll be making a return engagement Sunday at 10 a.m. on The Mike Nowak Show with Peggy Malecki. I’ll be representing Local Food Forum and talking about our region’s growing season — and what a season it’s been — as we head into the last full month of the outdoor farmers market season.
How do I tune in to The Mike Nowak Show? Mike and Peggy ask that you watch the livestream either at The Mike Nowak Show website or their YouTube page; you can also subscribe to the YouTube page by clicking in the upper right corner. They also stream live on Facebook and on Periscope (Twitter).
News From Our Local (Craft) Spirit World
Friday (October 1) is a big day for two of Chicagoland’s pioneering craft distilleries.
Koval Distillery — opened in 2008 as the first post-Prohibition distillery within the city of Chicago — is opening its tasting room tomorrow after a long, frustrating pandemic-caused delay.
The tasting room, with an adjoining outdoor patio, is located at Koval’s production distillery at 4241 N. Ravenswood Ave. (just south of Montrose) on Chicago’s North Side. According to Koval, the tasting room will feature “cocktails, flights, perfect pairs, light bites, international coffee drinks and more.” It is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m., and on weekends from noon to 10 p.m.

Happy 10th Anniversary to FEW
FEW Spirits opened its doors in October 2011 as the first distillery in suburban Evanston, historically the national hub of the Prohibitionist movement. Its name is a double entendre reference to the initials of Frances E. Willard, the Evanston resident and Northwestern University instructor who led the Women’s Christian Temperance Union in the late 19th century.
FEW will celebrate its 10th anniversary tomorrow from 5:00-10:00 p.m. at the distillery, located in a former auto repair shop tucked up an alley at 918 Chicago Ave. in Evanston. According to FEW, “we'll sip on 10th Anniversary Four Grain Bourbon, enjoy food from our Evanston favorites, as well as a lineup of the 2021 summer season’s ‘greatest hits’ Friday cocktails.” Live entertainment will be provided by the groups The Inventors and Mojo 49.
