Green City Opens for the Really Cool Kids
A rumor of spring at the early season operner...but who cares?
Green City Market Opens for the Really Cool Kids
So it turns out that revenge is not the only thing that is best served cold. Spring was a mere rumor when Green City Market’s flagship Lincoln Park location kicked off the local outdoor market season today (Saturday).
But who cares? For local food fans, this is the real most wonderful time of the year, and a little nip in the air isn’t going to stop us from browsing the beautiful food and saying hi to farmer friends who we haven’t seen for what seems like much more than five months.
My first Green City haul of the years included winter spinach from Nichols Farm & Orchard (Marengo, Illinois), hickory nuts from Froggy Meadow Farm (Beloit, Wisconsin), Cameo apples from Ellis Family Farms (Benton Harbor, Michigan), carrots from Star Farm Chicago, a couple of Phoenix Bean’s amazing tofu salads (Chicago), and a couple of bagels from Flat and Point (Chicago), a brand new GCM vendor.
Enough words, more pictures. And if you’re reading this on Saturday morning, Green City Market is open until 1.
Yes! Farmers Market Season is coming.
