For Amber Waves of Grain
Happy 4th of July as we declare our independence from the conventional food system
And Crown Thy Good With Brotherhood
Oh, beautiful, for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain
For purple mountain majesties,
Above the fruited plain.
America, America,
God shed His grace on thee.
And crown thy good,
With brotherhood,
From sea to shining sea.
Happy July 4th to our local farmers, farmers markets, local food retailers, healthy packaged goods makers, consumers, researchers and advocates for all you do to build a food system that is healthier, more sustainable, more humane and fairer… and to those others who we work every day to persuade to join us in pursuing a way of eating that is better for people, better for the planet, better for animals and better for local economies.
It’s about small farmers. It’s about those farmers and workers, many of them immigrants, toiling to make sure you having healthy local food on your table. It’s about consumers who vote with their dollars to build and repair strong, vibrant local economies, both rural and urban. It’s about preserving our precious soils and containing global climate change for generations to come.
It’s about everyday people from all walks of life who are affecting positive change at a time when too much in our nation and the world appears to be regressing.
It’s about America, at its best.
