Filling The Gaps (With A Small Market Haul)
After receiving a 16-pound watermelon and 12 ears of corn in Tuesday’s home delivery from Three Sisters Garden (Kankakee, Illinois) — see yesterday’s Local Food Forum — I most definitely did not need a lot more stuff to feed us this week. So my visit to Green City Market this morning was short and sweet as a peach.
I only hit two stands, in fact. Froggy Meadow Farm (Beloit, Wisconsin) was my source for red and green heirloom tomatoes, the Sungold cherry tomatoes, and the Red Candy Apple onions. The Donut peaches and the regular peaches — these were discounted “seconds,” a great value — are from Ellis Family Farms (Benton Harbor, Michigan).
Now, back to the watermelon feast already in progress.
