Tips on Reducing Food Waste
By some reports, as much as 40 percent of food produced in the United States goes to waste. What makes this statistic even more regrettable is that much of this waste is avoidable. With relatively little effort, surplus food can help address the issues of food access and hunger, or can be converted to natural soil supplements to help grow food more sustainably.
Reducing food waste is the topic of this week’s installment of the weekly series shared with Local Food Forum by University of Illinois Extension and UI Health as part of UI Extension’s Eat.Move.Save. program. Thanks to UI Extension’s Bianca Bautista, who creates these informative features.
