Your Donations Go Far With This Food Nonprofit
We are sharing end-of-year fundraising appeals from nonprofits that do such great work promoting a better food system. Today we feature an ask from 61st Street Farmers Market and its parent organization Experimental Station, which provided all materials.
A reminder to all food nonprofits: If you would like us to include your nonprofit year-end appeals, please email bob@localfoodforum.com with a 1-3 paragraph summary, a link to more information or a donation page, and a graphic (if you have one) promoting your campaign. Offer expires December 31, obviously

Urban Canopy Seeks Farm Production Lead
The Urban Canopy has a job opening for Farm Production Lead at their two-acre outdoor farm in Englewood on Chicago’s South Side.
According to their posting, “We are seeking a skilled farm manager… The ideal candidate has 3+ years of experience in production farming and managing a small team, excels at developing and practicing efficient hand-scale production methods, and is committed to environmental stewardship, local job creation, healthy-living initiatives, and community building.”
From the organization’s website:
Founded in 2011, The Urban Canopy is pioneering the local food cycle to create a more sustainable and equitable food system in Chicago. We are growers, distributors, composters and community members who seek to positively impact our city’s environment, people’s health, and local economy. We strive to make healthy produce accessible to all, reduce the miles fresh food travels, keep food waste out of landfills, and create and maintain local jobs.
To achieve this, we structure our business into seven Branches: Compost Club, Indoor Farm, Outdoor Farm, Local Unified CSA (LUCSA), Farmers Markets, non-local Distribution and Processing. These branches each work in their own way to change the way our food is grown, distributed, and wasted.
