Eventful Tuesday
Last call for Chicago Chefs Cook event, first call for Future of Beverages at Koval
Last Call for Thursday’s Chicago Chefs Cook Event
There are still a few tickets available for Thursday evening’s Chefsgiving, the Chicago Chefs Cook coalition’s next fundraising event, which is dedicated to helping the city’s burgeoning migrant population with basic needs.
The event, a dinner at downtown Chicago’s Venteux restaurant (224 N. Michigan Ave.), will benefit the Pilsen Food Pantry “New Migrant Program,” which provides shelter, food, clothing, and healthcare resources to Chicago’s newest arrivals. Venteux is located on the ground floor of the Pendry Chicago hotel.
The chef lineup for the dinner is amazing: Marcel Heiduk of Venteux, Devon Quinn of eden, Dudley Nieto of Fat Rosie’s, Rodolfo Cuadros of Amaru, D’Andre Carter of Soul & Smoke, Manny Mendoza of Herbal Notes, and pastry chef extraordinaire Felicia Mayden. Matthew Rodrigues, co-host of NBC 5’s Chicago Today program, is the emcee.
Chicago Chefs Cook is led by Chef Sarah Stegner of Northbrook’s Prairie Grass Cafe; Jodi Fyfe, founder/CEO of The Paramount Group catering and eden restaurant; and Good Food advocates Eda Davidman and Darren Gest.

11/28: Future of Beverages Chat and Treats
You might recognize this photo from Monday’s recap of the recent American Craft Spirits event at Binny’s Beverage Depot. Today Local Food Forum introduces an important new event to be held Tuesday, November 28 at Koval Distillery’s tasting room on Chicago’s Malt Row.
Join Naturally Chicago at Koval for Cocktails and Conversations. [Note: I work for Naturally Chicago part-time as communications consultant.]
This fun event will feature a discussion about the future of beverages with Dr. Sonat Hart — Co-founder and Co-owner of Koval with her husband Robert Birnecker — and Naturally Chicago Board member Kim Holstein, President and Co-Founder (with husband Scott) of Twisted Alchemy cold-pressed juice mixers.
There will also be treats to enhance your enjoyment. Each attendee will get two drink tickets to exchange for Koval cocktails or flights at the bar. There will be heavy appetizers of local, sustainable food from Chicago's Steingold's Deli, and you’ll have the opportunity to buy Koval's and Twisted Alchemy's excellent products to take home with you.
Koval, which uses only organic Midwestern grain in its products, played a historic role in our region's craft spirits industry. When it opened in 2008, it was the first distilling business in the city of Chicago since Prohibition.
They also have played an important role in the growth of the craft spirits industry through their Kothe Distilling Technologies company. Koval also has been an anchor producer in Malt Row, the concentration of nearby beer and spirits producers on Chicago's North Side.
And while we’re on about Naturally Chicago…
A reminder about the other big upcoming event presented by Naturally Chicago, the trade association for our region’s Natural Products consumer packaged goods industry: the Chicago premiere of Common Ground, the impactful and star-studded documentary about regenerative agriculture and its benefits to the planet, including carbon sequestration to limit climate change.

Bob’s World, and Welcome to It
There are lots of beautiful sunsets. And then there’s this epic piece of nature’s artwork, seen outside our window on Monday (November 6).
This was the last photo at twilight’s last gleaming. Here’s the rest of the sequence for your viewing pleasure.
