End of Year Appeals: Help Me Help You
Plus, FACT grants for livestock farms are open, and The Evolved Network strikes again
Chicago Weather Truth in Advertising
We have had a stretch of mostly clear weather, and Chicago really shines in the sun. It’s only fair to remind that this, too, is Chicago weather. It’s November 15, and snow was in the air all morning, at least up here 300 feet or so off the ground.
We have a maritime climate here by the lakeshore that keeps the temperatures a little milder, at least during the early winter weather season. It’s several degrees above freezing and as you can see, nary a flake is sticking to the roadways or even the grass. But the news reports say there’s accumulation in the chillier inland areas.
No complaints, we have all four seasons here in Chicago, sometimes all of them within one week (the temperatures were in the 70s last week). What’s next is anyone’s guess.
Help Me Help You Promote Your Annual Appeals
Time does fly, doesn’t it? Thanksgiving is next week, Giving Tuesday is two weeks from today, and the end of year is just around the corner.
Local Food Forum does its best all year to support the amazing nonprofits that work, in their own ways and together, to build a more local, healthier, more sustainable, fairer and more humane food system. As was the case in the newsletter’s first year, I am offering to share your fundraising messages, be they for Giving Tuesday or end-of-year appeals.
But… if you would benefit from having Local Food Forum share your outreach… please share your pitches with me directly. As most you know, this newsletter is a one-very-busy-person operation, and unfortunately, I just don’t have time to harvest this material from organizations’ websites or social media.
So if you are interested, please either reply to this issue of the newsletter or click below to email me your information directly. Thanks and best of luck during fundraising season.
Apply for FACT’s Fund-a-Farmer Grants by 1/10
Food Animal Concerns Trust, or FACT, does great work to promote humane treatment of livestock and to press for the elimination or reduction of antibiotic overuse by food animal producers.
One of FACT’s most impactful programs is its annual Fund-a-Farmer grant distribution — and livestock farmers are invited to apply for the 2023 grants by January 10.
FACT awards competitive grants of up to $3,000 each to working, independent farmers located in the 50 United States and five major U.S. territories who raise beef cattle, bison, broiler chickens, dairy cows, ducks, geese, goats, laying hens, pigs, sheep and/or turkeys. After a selection process is completed, the grants will be announced in March.
