A New Week Dawns
Monday sunrise. Let’s do some beautiful things this week.
Deck the Hauls with Piles of Veggies
I dropped by Green City Market’s first opening at its new winter market location (3031 N. Rockwell St.) in the Avondale neighborhood. After the vendors had to spend the last couple of outdoor markets in premature winter cold, it was nice to see them coatless and cozy inside.
My haul pictured above has some of the finest of early December local food. There are cranberries and eggs sold by Ellis Family Farms (Benton Harbor, Michigan), and white mushrooms from River Valley Ranch (Burlington, Wisconsin). The delicata squash, sweet potatoes, aptly named Frostbite apples, and carrots are all from Nichols Farm and Orchard (Marengo, Illinois). Plus two tofu salads from Phoenix Bean (Chicago).
The next Green City Market is this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. I’ll have the full weekend market schedule in tomorrow’s issue.
Nonprofits: Our End-of-Year Appeal Offer Stands
Hey, nonprofit friends, Giving Tuesday is gone, but the offer stands to publish your end-of-year fundraising appeals in Local Food Forum. Just send me your appeal copy or a press release (photos/graphics optional but welcome) and in they go.
With one caveat: You need to directly ask, even if I’ve occasionally picked up your stuff off the web. My human resources are me, myself and I, and with time tight, I just can’t do the research. Ask, and you shall receive.
