Chicago's Gain: Tish Steele Takes Charge at Green City Market
Local Food Forum Market Doubleheader Included First In-Person Connect

Chicago's Green City Market has been a leading catalyst in the region's farmers market sector since 1999. So the arrival of Letisha Steele, who goes by Tish, as the non-profit's new executive director is a big deal in our local food community.
Tish comes to Chicago from Denver, where she served as executive director of Denver Food Rescue, and also served as co-chair of Denver Sustainable Food Policy Council.
Local Food Forum doesn't play favorites among our many great farmers markets, but I can't hide my appreciation to Green City Market — not only because it has been my local market since 2012, but also because it played an important role in my transition from a 30-year political journalist to becoming a full-time advocate for a better food system.
So I have a rooting interest in Tish Steele's success as the market's new leader. Welcome to Chicago!
Meet Tish and get a flavor for Saturday’s fun at Green City and at The Lincoln Park Farmers Market in this Local Food Forum article.
There Is Nothing Rare About a Farmers Market Day in June
Eight New Openings This Week Bring Region Close to Full Season Capacity

Just a few weeks ago, there were only a handful of Chicago region farmers markets getting a jump on the outdoor season. Time flies, and suddenly we're nearing mid-June with an almost full complement of regional markets.
Check out this week’s market schedule, with a preview of additional markets opening next week. Do it because it’s the freshest, most delicious food around. Do it because it’s locally grown, healthy, and produced with sustainable practices. And especially, do it to support our local farmers.
