New Year’s Do-Over
Well, hi there. This work week got off to a pretty start. I’m going to try to make it a productive one because I have to.
As many of you have read, my year started with a thud. My body rebelled against a new medical treatment and I spent the entire New Year’s weekend flat on my back in bed. It was just a week ago today that I finally got vertical and started a slow shuffle back to normalcy.
I did get quite a bit of work done by the end of the week, and my Saturday visit to the Green City indoor market marked my release back into the wild. I had been refusing to acknowledge that it was actually 2023 (Friday was December 37). I’m ready to move on.
I feel fine except for some persistent fatigue, which I am addressing through an aggressive schedule of napping. This is probably the biggest advantage of working from home, or at least a close second to a refrigerator always filled with delicious, home-cooked food.
Many thanks to those of you who reached out to wish me well.
Have a great week, folks, and let me know if you have any news or stories to tell. I can really use some contributed copy as I play some mad catchup here.
Happy to Be Back
The nice thing about going to Green City Market is that it’s about good food and good friends. I always enjoy chatting with folks, many of whom I’ve known for years, while stocking up on their delicious local food.
Without further adieu, this week’s market haul…
Please turn your attention to the mini-delicata squash on the right, from Jacobson Family Farms (Antioch, Illinois). Definitely the adorbs vegetable of the week.
Also (from right), an spicy eggplant tofu salad and a tofu dip (which is just amazing) from Phoenix Bean Tofu (Chicago); a beef chuck roast intended for a stew and a pork roast intended for a pork roast from Finn’s Ranch (Buchanan, Michigan)… the market is every other week, so some stocking up going on here; apple cider and honey from Ellis Family Farms (Benton Harbor, Michigan); white mushrooms from River Valley Ranch (Burlington, Wisconsin); and rainbow carrots, onions, potatoes and Frostbite apples from Nichols Farm and Orchard (Marengo, Illinois).
The next Green City Market in its indoor Avondale location is on Saturday, January 21. The following is this week’s winter market schedule.
