13 Minutes of Fame on Crain's Podcast
I had a blast chatting with David Manilow, and I think you'll enjoy the program
Crain’s Podcast Features Local Food Forum
Any day that I get to write or talk about local food is a good day, but this one is really special. Crain’s Chicago Business has a podcast called The Daily Gist (Business News Out Loud)… and Local Food Forum is on it today!
The program is the result of an interview with David Manilow that took place on Saturday. David does a weekly feature in which he discusses the various aspects of our city’s and region’s food community with Amy Guth, host of The Daily Gist. This week it is local food’s (and Local Food Forum’s) turn.
David (who I’ve known for about 10 years) is the producer of the long-running Check, Please! television series in which three average folks review local restaurants nominated by each. While the franchise is up and running in several cities around the country, it is currently off the air in Chicago (we should do a petition drive to get it re-started).
The podcast, which intersperses excerpts from the interview with conversation between David and Amy, covers quite a range of topics, from orange egg yolks to terroir in produce (it’s not just for wine grapes) to climate change and its unpredictable impact on farmers and the big picture about why local is better.
I managed to squeeze shoutouts to several favorite farms into the 13-minute show, including Windy City Harvest, Mick Klug Farm, Ellis Family Farms, Urban Growers Collective, Star Farm Chicago and Froggy Meadow Farm.
I hope you’ll click below and give it a listen. Whatever else, you certainly won’t have any doubts about my enthusiasm for the subject matter.
Small Favor and It’s Free (Unless You Want to Pay)
Local Food Forum is soooo close to 600 subscribers. As you can see from the podcast story above, I’m always hard at work to build this community. And I love milestones.
So… if you like what you see and you’re not already a subscriber, I’d be thrilled if you’d join the club. You’re welcome to grab a free subscription. There are also paid subscriptions, which are really quite a bargain considering that I post this puppy almost every day.
